You can tell from the title: someone is very hyped over here!
Confessions or proud outings: I am listening to the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack since August and I am celebrating Anthropology for not only selling the first Halloween things but also since yesterday the very first Christmas ornaments. Yes, I am all in and I enjoy all those tiny bits right now. I am living for these seasons and that’s why I decided early to browse through my decor and think of some cute DIYs.
Halloween season is a pretty hard one here in Germany and I often struggle finding grown-up decor, since I am not in the mood for plastic spiders, fake blood, and some childish ghosts hanging around. I want pumpkins, but nothing too cheap, not too fancy, nothing gold, and no Halloween mixed with harvest or Thanksgiving. I just want to enjoy a little spooky vibe which makes me smile and feel good.
Mentally I am singing all the songs from Nightmare Before Christmas, so I really don’t need a horror scene at home.
I gathered more and more things the last year and I am helping myself with easy DIY ideas to feel like I am not missing out over here.
This year, I really wanted every room at home to scream fall and Halloween. I was on the hunt for some new or let’s say more pumpkins and my hunt was long and tiring. I craved something special, but I didn’t know what I wanted.
During one long Sunday, I cleaned and decluttered my cell phone, looking at my Paris photos and the many pictures I took of the Yayoi Kusama statue that is located in front of the Louis Vuitton shop with many colorful dots. Yayoi is such a great artist and I just love her polka dots. She inspires me and whenever I see her pumpkins I feel happy.
This was my solution and the best idea for my next DIY.
Yayoi pumpkins for my home.
I just needed a great selection of pumpkins and some fresh paint! Let’s go!
I wanted this to be a sweet weekend project but I finished a bit faster than that! I was so excited creating these.
Start with the base (you can also use red, I thought yellow and white is enough for my tiny bathroom) and then work yourself through with dots of all sizes. For this I worked with a qtip and needle. Dipping the tools into the color and making sure everything is “printed” clean and aesthetically.
It goes from thickest dot to thinnest dot and then repeat! Very easy!
I am feeling good about extending my pumpkin selection at home and I get even more excited that all of my rooms have different Halloween and fall themes. My bathroom is artsy fall-ish now and when feeling extra fancy, I could even extend the use of the pumpkins, because Yayoi’s pumpkins are also around all year.
What do you think about this DIY?
Have fun recreating this!
I wish you a wonderful last stretch of summer and a beautiful first of September.
